June at the Museum
Hello friends,
Happy summer everyone!
Our favorite part of the summer is all the opportunities for messy outdoor play! We were so excited to join Waterville Creates and partners for Arts in Bloom where we dug our hands into the dirt to plant new raised beds in the front of the museum. We are also welcoming the local 3rd graders for an end-of-school-year field trip that includes squishy coffee-ground playdough exploration and painting on our giant acrylic board.
And you can bet we'll be making mud, squishing slime, stacking ice cubes, and more at some upcoming Quarry Road Outdoor Adventures!
We encourage you to let your kiddos get a little messy in your own backyards. Just hose them down at the end, set up a sprinkler for them to run through, or steer them right into the shower or bath after playtime!
Yours in discovery,
Amarinda Keys
Children's Discovery Museum Executive Director
On the Blog
Last month on the blog, we interviewed Lunder Fellow Veronica Perez, who will be creating beautiful interactive pieces of art to be part of the museum’s brand new exhibit hall... with YOU!
Throughout the month of June, Veronica is hosting a series of workshops that invite the community into the design and creation process. These workshops last approximately two hours and will take place at both Greene Block + Studio and the Colby Art Museum.
The Children's Museum is raising money to complete the fabrication of our new exhibit hall!
Join us! Every donation counts whether its $20, $200, $2,000, $20,000 or more. Thank you for making this new museum a reality.
Free Programming this summer
Quarry Road
The museum meets at the Quarry Road yurt every Tuesday at 10:00 for an outdoor adventure!
Weekly meetups take place completely outside, are socially distanced, last about an hour, and include a walk through the trails and a simple activity.
This program is completely free and open to all ages.
Farmers Market
Come see us for some free imaginative playtime at the Augusta and the Waterville Farmers' Markets all summer long!
We set up a selection of pieces from our Mobile Museum each week for children to explore.
We are in Augusta on Tuesdays and Waterville on Thursdays, both from 2:00 to 5:00.
Touch a Truck
Saturday, June 18th from 1:00 - 4:00 at the museum

We are excited to partner with Bangor Savings Bank for a free day of fun right at the museum!
A whole section of our parking lot will be filled with trucks. Get right up close, and even hop inside some of them!
Kids in the Woods Summer Program
is FULL
Our outdoor summer experience with Quarry Road is full!
If you are interested in joining the waiting list, please email program leader Caitlin at caitlin@childrensdiscoverymuseum.org with your child's name and the week you are interested in joining.
Our gardens are blooming!
Last month, the museum welcomed the young women from Girl Scout Troop 545 to the museum to help prep our raised beds and plant some bulbs. A special thanks also to Susan, a local Maine Naturalist, who was a great help keeping us on the right track!
The troop also helped us get ready to host the community for Arts in Bloom with Waterville Creates and other community partners. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to help us finish the beds!
They are blooming already!
Community Spotlight
On Tuesday, 6/21, between 6PM and 7:30PM, visit the North Street Community Connector Trail for "Hello, Summah!" StoryWalk® Bash (weather permitting)! Celebrate the start of summer and the end of the school year with the brand new summer StoryWalk® book. There will be snacks and games and a guided walk! Children of all ages and their families are welcome.
The museum will be there with some of our Mobile Museum pieces!
