An emeritus professor and dean from Colby College, Earl Smith has written three novels -- The Dam Committee and More Dam Trouble, both of which are set in present-day Belgrade, and his latest, Head of Falls, set in the 1950s in the now vanished neighborhood at the base of Temple Street in Waterville.
