Chi-Raq Film Showing

January 13, 2016, 7:15 PM

Free

A free showing and moderated discussion about Spike Lee’s film and themes of gun violence, sexuality, feminism, and power.

Spike Lee is back with his hottest film in years, an ingenious updating of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, transposed to the South Side of Chicago, where the women have had enough of gun violence and come together with a weapon of their own: to withhold sex until their men throw down their guns. “Chi-Raq is a marvel. It’s Lee resurrecting his voice — angry, impassioned, and funny as hell — right when we need to hear it”—Amy Nicholson, Village Voice. “CHI-RAQ is sexy, brash, and potent — a powerful weapon in its own right”—David Edelstein, New York. (R, 127 min.)

This free showing is part of Colby’s Martin Luther King Day Commemorative Events. The film will also be screened Sat., 1/9 at 9:30 p.m., Sun., 1/10 at 7:15 p.m., and Mon., 1/11 at 7:15 p.m. at the cinema’s regular prices.
