Cinema Explorations: Anthropocene

March 8, 10:00 AM

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until March 8, 2020

A cinematic meditation on humanity’s massive and often thoughtless re-engineering of the planet, Anthropocene: The Human Epoch is a feature documentary film from the multiple award-winning team of Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky. The film follows the research of the Anthropocene Working Group who are now advocating that the geologic evidence shows the Holocene Epoch gave way to the Anthropocene Epoch in the mid-twentieth century, as a result of profound and lasting human changes to the Earth. While the intricacies of evaluating geologic evidence is not the focus of the film, the manifestations of that evidence — beautiful, colorful, terrible, and yet always stunning — is. The filmmakers traversed the globe, filming on six continents, in 20 countries, and at 43 different locations using high-end production values and state-of-the-art camera techniques to document the evidence and experience of human planetary domination. (Unrated, 87 min., 2018)

Screened both Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. as part of our winter film series, Cinema Explorations.
