Couples Therapy

October 13, 2017October 14, 2017

Free

An original play Couples Therapy, featuring Thomas College students, will be staged on October 13 at 7:00 p.m. and on October 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ayotte Auditorium at Thomas College, 180 West River Road, Waterville.  The play was written and will be directed by Waterville local Paul P. Barnes. Admission is free.

Couples Therapy showcases three couples that are all in completely different situations. “The Blind Date” features Couple #1 Joaquin and Alice, played by third-year student and Fort Kent native Christo Naranja and Sofia Andree who is also in her third year and is from Lewiston, Maine. These two are meeting in person for the first time. Joaquin is a mellow hipster, while Alice is a very smart career woman. The audience is left with their own opinions about whether or not these two will make it.

“The Engagement” features Couple #2 Patrick and Lizzie, played by second-year student and York-native Stevo Reid and first-year student Lia Johnson who is from Orrington, Maine. The chemistry between these two is palpable. This is probably the funniest engagement you will ever see.

Finally, “The Break Up” features Couple #3 William and Sara, played by third-year student and Brunswick native Ross Munn and first-year student Dianna Nicholas of Princeton, Maine. These two play an older couple that have been together for 25 years and have decided to break up.

Meanwhile, second-year student Cassidy French from Deep River, Connecticut, who plays the very busy waitress constantly explaining why the restaurant was named Therapy, is waiting on all three couples.

“Rarely do you see a play where all actors are directly connected to each other,” said Director Paul Barnes. “When you watch the show, you are watching one moment in time, but you’re watching it three times in a row.”
