On the Road: Canaan artists

June 26, 2020, 1:00 PM2:00 PM

Free

Many of us are lamenting the limitations of travel this summer. Thankfully, we live in a state of extreme beauty with many fascinating places to visit. Here at WC!, we realize there are numerous destinations off the beaten path where we can explore Maine’s incredible art, artists, and natural landscape. The On the Road series is designed to explore areas that are art destinations in their own right and/or sites where we can create our own works of art.

In Part II of our adventures in Canaan will visit artists Kathleen Perelka, pastel painter, and David Ellis, potter.

Perelka is an incredible pastel artist who is inspired by her love of vibrant colors and landscapes. “I have a spiritual connection with nature and being outdoors. Sounds, scents and color feed me.  I am most alive outdoors and work almost entirely with landscape; wild places like marshes and blueberry barrens with no homes insight.  I also am drawn to farm scenes with huge fields and open sky.” Her beautiful pastels are sold throughout the state.

David Ellis has been studying and practicing pottery since high school. He  studied pottery at the University of Massachusetts. Amherst, the Harvard-Radcliffe Studio, Massachusetts College of Art, and the University of Maine. He works with high fire stonewares and is influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian potters. He will join Kathy for a studio sale during our visit.
