October 17, 2018, 4:00 PM

Free

A lecture and film screening with Barbara Bertolani, who studies the role of ethnic and kin-networks of first-generation South Asians in the processes of migration and economic integration in Italy. In her talk about the Punjabi Sikh youth in Italy, Bertolani will focus on issues of gender equality, castes, and arranged marriages. She will also screen her documentary film on young Sikhs in Italy. In this film, she interviews them on their religious identity, visibility in the public space as Sikhs, and life expectations. Her documentary explores the complex dynamics of integration in the local social context and of intergenerational confrontation. Reception to follow.
