The Man From Laramie

September 14, 2015, 7:00 PM

Free

Anthony Mann’s tough, lean, beautiful western is the last of five collaborations between this terrific director and Jimmy Stewart and one of the first widescreen Technicolor westerns. In Mann and Stewart’s ‘50s westerns, the hero, while still heroic, is also troubled and troubling, and the simple verities of simpler westerns are quietly blown away…. Unrated. 104 Min.

Followed by a discussion with Katz Curator Diana Tuite and Associate Professor of Cinema Studies Steve Wurtzler about the film's representation of landscape and the influence of wide-screen Technicolor cinematography on the early work of artist Alex Katz.

Presented by the Colby College Museum of Art.
