SUMMARY:Unified Champion Schools Play Day
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled. \nThe Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC)\, the AYCC’s Adult Unified Champion Club\, and in partnership with Special Olympics of Maine\, is proud to host the Unified Champion Schools – Central Maine Basketball Preseason Play Day on Saturday\, January 10\, beginning at 12:00 pm at the AYCC. \nThis exciting preseason event will bring together Unified Champion Schools from across Maine for a day of skill-building\, friendly competition\, and inclusive community connection. The Play Day is designed to celebrate teamwork\, sportsmanship\, and the power of inclusion – core values of the Unified Champion Schools movement. \nUnified Champion Schools promote meaningful inclusion by bringing students with and without intellectual disabilities together through sports\, leadership\, and whole-school engagement. The preseason play day offers athletes a chance to prepare for the upcoming basketball season while building confidence\, friendships\, and a strong sense of belonging. \nIn addition to hosting the event\, the AYCC is proud to be home to one of the few Unified Champion Clubs in Maine for adults\, providing inclusive recreational and athletic opportunities year-round. This season\, the AYCC has also launched a Buddy League for elementary and middle school-aged youth\, expanding inclusive programming for younger athletes and fostering early connections through sport. \nThis winter\, AYCC’s Unified programming will feature basketball and softball in the spring\, along with additional inclusive recreational opportunities throughout the year. These programs reflect the AYCC’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that individuals of all abilities feel welcomed\, supported\, and empowered through sport and community engagement. \nAll Maine Unified Champion Schools are invited to attend and participate in this collaborative and energetic event. Families\, educators\, and community supporters are encouraged to attend and cheer on the athletes. There is no cost to UCS teams or for spectators. \nFor media inquiries\, interview requests\, or additional information\, please contact: \nBeth LaFountain\nAthletic Director\n207-873-0684\nblafountain@clubaycc.org\nhttps://www.clubaycc.org/programs/youth/athletics/athletics-access-for-all/

SUMMARY:Pihcintu Multinational Girls Chorus
DESCRIPTION:War-torn villages\, refugee camps\, famine\, and political upheaval were once the daily reality for many of the young singers who would eventually find safety\, companionship\, and harmony within the Pihcintu Multinational Girls Chorus. Though the memory of danger and loss never fully disappears\, the healing power of music has helped these resilient young women learn to trust\, hope\, and laugh again. \nFounded in Portland\, Maine — an ever-growing hub for international resettlement — the chorus brings together girls from across the globe to sing as one. Conceived by award-winning producer\, musician\, and songwriter Con Fullam\, Pihcintu unites voices from Cambodia\, Congo\, El Salvador\, Egypt\, Kenya\, Somalia\, Sudan\, Uganda\, Vietnam\, the British West Indies\, and many more\, along with girls whose families have lived in Maine for generations. Their presence is transformative\, and their music touches the hearts of all who hear them. \nAdmission is free\, but reservations are required. \nLearn more + make reservations Watch + Listen on YouTube
