SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Painted Fiction
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening reception of Painted Fiction\, celebrating the work of Maine artists and their vibrant\, innovative approaches to painting. The reception will take place in conjunction with May First Friday on May 1\, from 5–7pm. \nCurated by artist Barbara Sullivan\, Painted Fiction celebrates the work of over a dozen dynamic Maine artists who are redefining the timeless art of painting with fresh\, imaginative\, and innovative approaches. Together\, their works breathe new energy into the practice of painting\, capturing the ironic\, nostalgic\, romantic\, and even grotesque facets of our current culture. Each piece offers a vivid reflection of our world through the artist’s eyes\, inviting viewers to rediscover the magic of painting\, explore their own interpretations\, and connect the art to their personal experiences. Exhibition open through June 15\, 2026. \nImage credit: Alicia Ines Ethridge\, Watchers of the Ember Woods (Detail)\, Oil on Linen\, 2025\, 22” x 30” \nMore Info

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Whimsical Monsters of Winslow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebration of creativity and collaboration featuring more than 25 imaginative “monster” creations by students from Winslow Elementary\, Winslow Junior High\, and Winslow High School. \nThis unique multi-age project brought together young artists across the district: third graders dreamed up and designed original monsters\, high school students brought them to life through painting\, and junior high students transformed them into 3D prints and clay sculptures. Musicians from the schools even composed original pieces inspired by each creature\, adding another layer to these whimsical works. \nThe public is invited to explore the exhibition\, meet some of the student artists\, and enjoy light refreshments. \nPart of May First Friday.

DESCRIPTION:Strap in for the next uproarious chapter of Jenda’s Movie Madness\, where cinematic catastrophes are transformed into pure comedy gold. \nThis round\, we’re rocketing straight into Teenagers from Outer Space — the 1959 sci‑fi “thriller” featuring laser‑happy alien teens\, a giant lobster monster that never actually appears on screen\, and a ray gun sound effect that will haunt your dreams. Carried on a wave of wonderful songs\, by turns hilarious and raucous\, romantic and melodic\, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For after all\, a princess is a delicate thing. \nMusic by Mary Rodgers\nLyrics by Marshall Barer\nBook by Jay Thompson\, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer\nDirected by Beth Lambert\nMusical Direction by Rob Laraway\nSponsored by KSW Federal Credit Union\, Allen Insurance and Marie Cormier \nOnce Upon a Mattress is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals \nCast\nPrincess Winnifred–Shannon Thurston\nPrince Dauntless–Owen Lewis\nQueen Aggravain–Marcine Sopko\nKing Septimus–Paul Strand\nThe Minstrel–Jessica Haviland\nThe Jester–Chris Dostie\nLady Larken–Kiersten Christy\nSir Harry–Avery Ryan\nThe Wizard–Keith Davis\nEnsemble–Hannah Comfort\, Arielle Costello\, Kendall DeBoer\, Dan Eccher\, Krystal Guckin\, Paul Herard\, Robyn King\, Dawn Wiers\, Greg Wiers \nTICKETS + INFO
