SUMMARY:Oakland Façade Grant Workshop
DESCRIPTION:OAKLAND\, ME - November 12\, 2025– The Town of Oakland is launching the Oakland Façade and Downtown Improvement Grant Program (OFDIG) to support a more vibrant\, welcoming\, and economically resilient downtown. The program will provide funding to local business and property owners for exterior building improvements that enhance Oakland’s commercial corridors and strengthen downtown appeal. \nA public workshop will be held Tuesday\, November 18\, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at the Oakland Fire Station (15 Fairfield Street)\, with a hybrid Zoom option. Attendees will learn about eligibility\, the application process\, and funding priorities. \nThrough OFDIG\, the Town has allocated $25\,000 for exterior upgrades such as painting\, signage\, lighting\, accessibility improvements\, and façade repairs. The initiative builds on recent downtown planning efforts\, including the Town’s new Downtown TIF District and Comprehensive Plan\, and aims to support reinvestment\, preserve local character\, and boost small-business activity. \nThe program is designed to be flexible and accessible\, allowing a range of project sizes and types. While not required\, applicants are encouraged to include quotes or bids with their submissions\, as proposals demonstrating readiness will receive preference in the scoring process. Applications will be reviewed in February\, with awards announced in March and project completion expected by early fall 2026. \nBeyond funding\, the program reflects Oakland’s commitment to strengthening quality of place\, supporting local business growth\, and advancing shared community and economic development goals. \nResidents\, business owners\, and property owners are encouraged to attend the November 18 workshop. For meeting registration and application materials\, please visit: \nhttps://www.oaklandmaine.us/downtown-tif-page/

SUMMARY:Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror
DESCRIPTION:Two nights only! \nHow did a complete commercial flop of a movie turn into the biggest cult movie ever\, one that saved the very existence of Railroad Square Cinema\, The Maine Film Center’s forebear? Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror is a joyful and wild ride through the tale of the cultural juggernaut that is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. From its humble origins as a London fringe theater play\, the documentary tracks its meteoric rise\, fall\, and resurrection to become the biggest cult film of all time. With intimate access to its creator Richard O’Brien and other major players such as Tim Curry\, Susan Sarandon\, and Lou Adler\, the documentary explores what makes the play and film so singular: its groundbreaking and transgressive themes\, iconic performances\, and epic songs that took over popular culture. \nDirected by Linus O'Brien\, the son of Rocky Horror screenwriter Richard O'Brien (who also played Riff Raff in the film)\, "Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror is an excellent love letter to one of the longest-running films in cinema history. Linus O’Brien honors his father’s work\, and it is felt throughout the entire film. Watching this terrific documentary will make you want to do the Time Warp and enter the B-movie world of Dr. Frank-N-Furter all over again!"—Ethan Padgett\, Film Threat. \ntickets
