KVCAP Celebrates 50th Anniversary of
the Week of the Young Child
From April 12th through April 16th, KVCAP's Head Start programs at Educare Central Maine and in preschools through Somerset County celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Week of the Young Child. This tradition started in 1971 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to recognize the importance of early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities.
The weeklong celebration included daily learning themes: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. Children joined in many fun activities in their programs and at home with their families.
“This is a fun and very important week as we work to raise awareness about the benefits of high quality early care and education programming for children, families, and communities," said Sarah Lavallee, KVCAP Director of Early Head Start. "Access to high quality childcare is critical for so many families who are in the workforce or striving to achieve their own education goals. We celebrate WOYC each year in recognition of the importance of early childhood education!”
