REM Award Honorees (2004) — Peter Lyford (Waterville Main Street)

Waterville Main Street is pleased to recognize Peter Lyford as its 2004 REM Volunteer Award Honoree.

A very talented grant writer and consultant, Peter was instrumental in obtaining the $100,000 Façade Improvement Grant from the Department of Economic and Community Development, and remains active in administering the grant. Despite having recently started his own business, Community Outreach and Development Consulting, Peter donated all of his professional services on this project, including grant writing and administration.

Peter is also a member of the WMSt Organization Committee and has spent a lot of time investigating the potential benefits and process of creating a Downtown Tax Increment Financing district, including the coordination of a special workshop for the Waterville Development Corporation and WMSt. Peter has also devoted much time evaluating the feasibility of a Downtown Assessment district, including contacting other communities to gather information on their assessment districts and meeting with WMSt staff to develop figures for potential downtown services packages.

Peter serves as Secretary of the WMSt Board of Directors, and he also actively served on the Economic Restructuring Committee’s Parking Subcommittee. Peter is the WMSt representative on the Waterville Development Corporation Board of Directors and reports to us regularly on their discussions. He also was a key participant in the Upper Floor Access committee that worked with Wright-Pierce to investigate redevelopment of upper floors along Main Street.

Peter has donated at least 300 hours to Waterville Main Street in the past year without expecting anything in return other than the satisfaction of working toward the betterment of our community. Volunteers like Peter are the heart and soul of Waterville Main Street, and we are thrilled to honor him at the 2004 REM Community Volunteer Award Ceremony.
