I Know a Man… Ashley Bryan
February 20, 2022, 12:00 PM
Following the very recent passing of Ashley Bryan, Railroad Square Cinema brings back a memorable film about this remarkable Maine man. Born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx, Bryan served in an all-Black battalion during World War II and preserved his humanity through drawing by stowing supplies in his gas mask. Bryan later moved to the Cranberry Islands of Maine and used his art to celebrate joy, mediate the darkness of war and racism, explore the mysteries of faith, and create loving community. Poet and illustrator of over 50 published children's books, Bryan also made magical puppets and sea glass windows from found objects inspired by his African heritage. I Know a Man... Ashley Bryan is a vibrant and inspiring portrait.
