FreeProfessor of art history at James Madison University John Ott will speak on Eadweard Muybridge’s 1887 Animal Locomotion, a series of stop-motion photographs of humans and animals. Ott is the author of Manufacturing the Modern Patron in Victorian California: Cultural Philanthropy, Industrial Capital, and Social Authority (2014) and has published essays on art auctions, combat artists, comic books, and motoring magazines. Cosponsored by the Department of Art, the Colby College Museum of Art, and the Center for the Arts and Humanities.
