Folk Songs and Farm Stories

June 8, 2018, 6:00 PM7:00 PM

“Sing me a story! Tell me a song! That’s what folksinger and storyteller Jennifer Armstrong said as a child growing up in a folk singing, storytelling family. Goldilocks, Peter Rabbit, Old MacDonald and Aiken Drum were all friends of hers.

Jennifer grew up a member of the “first family of folk” in the Chicago area and was singing before she was talking and was playing fiddle, banjo, guitar and Scottish bagpipe by the time she was 14. Since 1977, she has plied her trade as a professional musician and storyteller, performing and teaching around the country and abroad. She has told stories as far away as Hong Kong and has twice been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee. In 2000 she moved to Belfast, Maine where she added milking goats, presenting a Pie and Storytelling Festival and growing a big garden to her list of fun things to do.

She now milks goats, keeps laying hens, ducks, horses and pigs and says, “I feel as if I am living inside the songs and stories I learned as a child!” Jennifer looks forward to sharing traditional and original songs and stories with you accompanied by fiddle, banjo, guitar and bagpipe! The dancing puppet and the handkerchief mouse are sure to make an appearance as well!

Come on out and sing and laugh together in appreciation of our communities and connections!
