Making a “Home Plate”
February 12, 3:00 PM
FreeIn this community workshop, given in conjunction with the exhibition Square + Triangle: Home in the Colby Museum’s Collection, participants can create a “home plate” object. They will build a personal version of a good home by collaging paper squares and triangles, scrabble letters, keys and other hardware, scraps of cloth, and personal items onto thrift shop dishes and bowls. Participants are asked to bring a small domestic object or item that symbolizes feeling at home, feeling safe, or gives you comfort.
The workshop will meet at the Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery inside the Paul J. Schupf Art Center, where curator, Gussie Weiss will give a walk-through of the exhibition. Then artist Maggie Libby will lead a discussion and art-making. At the end of the workshop, we can set a table with our “plates” and enjoy a hot beverage together.
Admission is free, but reservations are requested.
