On the Road: Maine Grains and Langlais Art Trail

July 9, 2020, 3:00 PM4:00 PM

Free

Many of us are lamenting the limitations of travel this summer. Thankfully we live in a state of extreme beauty with many fascinating places to visit. Here at WC!, we realize that there are numerous destinations off the beaten path where we can explore Maine’s incredible art, artists, and natural landscape. The On the Road series is designed to explore areas that are art destinations in their own right and/or sites where we can create our own works of art.

This week we will travel to Skowhegan to visit an old jail turned community space, grist mill and restaurant! Also, we will feature some locations on the Langlais Art Trail which winds throughout the State of Maine.

Maine Grains

Did you know Maine farmers used to grow wheat? Maine Grains and the Grist Mill serves bakers, brewers, chefs and families freshly-milled, organic and heritage grains sourced from the Northeast. By re-localizing grain production and milling, Maine Grains supports the health and livelihood of the farmers and communities in the area.Their traditional stone milling process ensures nutrient-packed products that are full of flavor and perfect for natural fermentation baking and cooking. We will visit them and share some of their recipes!

Langlais Art Trail

This trail is devoted to displaying and sharing the spirited art of Bernard Langlais (1921-1977) across his native state of Maine. The Langlais Art Trail can be enjoyed from Portland to Presque Isle and Skowhegan has several outdoor sculptures to enjoy. For more info on the trail: http://langlaisarttrail.org/
