On the Road: Viles Arboretum

July 16, 2020, 3:00 PM4:00 PM

Free

Many of us are lamenting the limitations of travel this summer. Thankfully we live in a state of extreme beauty with many fascinating places to visit. Here at WC!, we realize there are numerous destinations off the beaten path where we can explore Maine’s incredible art, artists, and natural landscape. The On the Road series is designed to explore areas that are art destinations in their own right and/or sites where we can create our own works of art.

This week we will visit the Viles Arboretum located in Augusta, Maine and comprised of 224 acres of land with a long history of farming. In the early 1800s, this area was owned by several neighboring farms. The Arboretum currently has 20 botanical collections with plans for additions in the future. Each of the current collections are clearly marked on the grounds and each has an interpretive panel providing informative and engaging information.

In addition to plant collections, the Viles Arboretum has sculptures creating a bridge between botanical collections and the natural environment. The goal is to introduce visitors to the interplay between art and nature, enhance the educational experience, and create a public space for inspiration.

Tune in to our Facebook Page at 3pm Thursday and look for our Facebook premiere! The video will also be saved in our video section for viewing at any time after the Facebook premiere.
