Home Weatherization Assessment Volunteers

Jun 2, 2018 by

Sustain Mid Maine Coalition’s Energy Team is looking for individuals who are interested in being trained to conduct Home Weatherization Assessments in the Waterville area. The goal of the weatherization assessment is to determine the home’s need for weatherization work, summarize those specific needs, explain the energy related rebates offered by Efficiency Maine, and assist the homeowner with any weatherization and/or energy related upgrades. We plan to conduct several, concise training sessions for the volunteers. Training will also include a practice visit to one or more homes accompanied by an experienced individual. Once their training is complete, volunteers in teams of two will visit the homes of residents who have requested an assessment. The homeowners will have completed a self-assessment on their energy use before the visit. The assessment will take up to an hour, including any discussions with the homeowner.

Criteria for volunteers:

  • Interested in learning about energy conservation
  • Age 18 or older
  • Must enter homes and engage with homeowners
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, may have to enter attics and/or basements
  • Willing to attend at least one 3-hour training session
  • Must commit to at least 3 assessments (conducted in pairs)
  • Time frame: training expected to occur in the fall of 2018
