Colby Wind Ensemble: Five Degrees of Increasing Separation

November 7, 2015, 7:00 PM

Free

JG12_1047a_____p4f8c2b564700bGermaine Taillefaire (Overture for the Orchestra) and Darius Milhaud (West Point Suite) were members of “Les Six”, a group of French composers reacting both to the Wagner’s bombast and Debussy’s overt sensuality. Milhaud’s suite and William Grant Still’s “To You, America” were both commissioned for the West Point sesquicentennial. Still and Vincent Persichetti (Symphony for the Band) both received Peabody Conservatory honorary doctorates in 1974. Finally, the program will feature an exhilarating composition based on Scottish folk tunes by West Coast composer Julie Giroux. Conducted by Eric Thomas.
