Gurukulam

June 13, 2016, 7:15 PM

Gurukulam (literally “One Without a Second”), from many of the same filmmakers who made Leviathan and Sweetgrass, creates a wholly unique and powerful atmosphere that will entrance. Gurukulam immerses us in a remote forest ashram in India, exploring by taking us into the daily life of the followers of Swami Dayananda, one of the last teachers of Vedanta. Rather than focus on the Swami or the intricacies of his teachings, Gurukulam places the audience in the ashram, evoking a visceral presence of the place and a tactile sense of the sacred. (Unrated, 108 mins.)

The screening will be introduced by the film's editor, Mary Lampson.

Tickets: $9 teens and adults; $7 students, seniors, and soldiers; $6 children
