Madeleines Launch Party: Play Reading and Cookie Swap
February 6, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
FreeJoin us to celebrate the 2025 world premiere production of Madeleines by Colby Performance, Theater and Dance faculty Bess Welden. Winner of the National Jewish Playwriting Award, Madeleines tells the story of Jewish sisters processing the death of their mother, a professional baker. When a secret hidden among their mother’s recipes is discovered, the siblings fracture, and their understanding of family is put to the test.
A play about sweets, familial rivalry, and learning to let go, Welden’s work asks us to examine how, and what, we forgive. Two Cent Theatre and a cast of local actors will read an excerpt of the script followed by a live interview with Bess facilitated by Bob Keyes, Editorial Director of the Colby Office of Communications, former arts reporter, and chair of the Maine Arts Commission. Bake your favorite cookies to share, raise a mug of hot cocoa to toast the launch of the play, and enter to win free tickets to see the show March 5-23 at Portland Stage.
Admission is free, but reservations are requested.
