The New Generation of Tall Timber Buildings
October 13, 2016, 6:30 PM
FreeSustain Mid Maine Coalition’s Education & Community Outreach Team invites you to “Timber First: An Introduction to the New Generation of Tall Timber Buildings,” presented by Bill Basford.
Recent advances in timber framing technology and changes to the 2015 International Building Code now allow Tall Timber Framed buildings of 18 storeys or more. Roughly a dozen of these are already completed or under construction in North America. Come learn about the environmental and economic advantages of these new Timber Towers and see examples, including an academic building near completion at U Mass Amherst and a 13-storey condo project in Quebec City. Many more will be coming soon, maybe even to Waterville, Maine.
