Ustad Usman Khan on Sitar

Ustad Usman Khan was born into a life of music. A sixth generation musician, third-generation sitar master and the grandson of Ustad Rehmat Khan (who in the 19th century codified the sitar into its modern-day form), he received from his father, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan of Dharwad, starting at age 6.

He is known for his emotional interpretations and for combining vocal and instrumental techniques on the sitar. He has toured widely throughout India and in France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and the U.S. and Canada.
