The mission of the Institute of Museum and Library Services is to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement. The highest honor for libraries and museums in the country — it is like winning an Academy Award! — the IMLS National Medal for Museum and Library Service honors outstanding institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service, exceeding the expected levels of community outreach. Out of 123,000 libraries in the country, the Waterville Public Library is one of 5 selected honorees to show the significant impact our nation's libraries have on the community through excellent programs, services, outreach, and partnerships that go well beyond expectations.
