Waterville Rocks!
July 27, 2018, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
FreeWaterville Rocks! is a series of four outdoor concerts presented by the Waterville Opera House for the enjoyment of the greater Waterville community. At these concerts, families and friends gather in historic downtown Waterville, lay down a blanket in Castonguay Square, listen to awesome music, and dance and socialize with others in the community. Established in 2016 by local business leaders and arts-focused organizations, Waterville Rocks! is becoming an annual community celebration of all-things-music held in the great outdoors. There is no charge associated with this event; it is all about community, free entertainment and good times in a delightful downtown greenspace.
Part two of our four part concert series features Girls Guns and Glory w/ The JT Lockwood Band. Free and family friendly!
Love and Protest: two concepts that seldom go hand in hand. Until you think about it a while.
That's what singer, guitarist and songwriter Ward Hayden did as he began mapping out plans for Girls Guns & Glory's next album, which happens to be called Love and Protest.
"That title sums up this album and it sums me up very well too," he says. "We've done 10 years of touring, living, learning and growing, maturing and developing a broader world view, a view outside of the small town where I grew up."
That decade began with Hayden and several like-minded musicians getting together. Their love for early rock 'n' roll, true country, raw blues and pretty much any kind of authentic American music branded them quickly as anomalous - and electrifying. Since that time they've barnstormed far beyond their Boston hometown, playing honky-tonks, beer joints and more recently concert venues throughout the U.S. They've amassed a loyal legion of fans along the way. The media have noticed too, including Rolling Stone, which heralds them as a "modern-day Buddy Holly plus Dwight Yoakam divided by the Mavericks."
Upbeat, passionate, and heartfelt; the words used to describe the music of Northeast Acoustic Pop Rockers The JT Lockwood Band
Hailing from Hallowell, Maine, a town known for its vibrant music and art scene, JT Lockwood (Vocals, Guitar) has spent much of the last decade writing and performing his own version of acoustic rock. Amidst an assembly of talented local musicians, JT emerged as a solo artist and began writing what would eventually become his 2006 debut album, "A Chance for Change."
Lockwood's songs form an honest connection with his audience, which is something many musicians strive for, but few seem to achieve. "I feel it's important to pay homage to a sound that is both familiar and comfortable, before you can offer an audience something completely new," explains Lockwood. "It's sort of like earning their trust, before you demand it."
