Susan Childs Boat Launch

FreeFriends of Quarry Road welcome all to attend the official opening of the Susan Childs Boat Launch on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 3 starting at 10:30am. After a ribbon cutting ceremony, the group’s president, Joe Reisert, will give an update on the area and plans for trail enhancements and summer programs.
The new boat launch was built in remembrance of Susan Childs, a local family physician and dedicated Friends of Quarry Road board member, and provides access for non-motorized boating on Messalonskee Stream – kayakers and canoers are encouraged to bring their boats for a paddle. The trails, including mountain bike single-track that was added last year, will be open for biking and walking for all ages and abilities, and a barbecue is planned to start at 11. The event is free and open to the public; donations to support the trails will be gratefully accepted.
Friends of Quarry Road, a non-profit group working collaboratively with the City of Waterville to help oversee and maintain the area, will also hold its annual meeting as part of the schedule of events. All are welcome to attend.
