Bring Back Date Night is a series of five date-worthy films to get you out of the house: In the Mood for Love (in 35 mm), Love & Basketball, 10 Things I Hate About You, Saving Face, and Baby Driver. Bring a date, a friend, or just yourself. Show your ticket and get 15% off at Front & Main or Meridians!
The films will be shown in the order in which they are listed above, one each Monday night, January 31 – February 28, at 7:00 p.m. Regular admission prices apply.
In the Mood for Love | Monday, January 31 at 7 p.m. (In 35mm!)
A ravishing portrait of forbidden attraction by Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar Wai, projected in gorgeous 35mm. Tony Chiu-Wai Leung and Maggie Cheung play two neighbors who form a tantalizingly chaste friendship while staying loyal to their respective spouses.
Love and Basketball | Monday, February 7 at 7 p.m.
Monica pursues her passion for basketball while falling in love with the boy next door in this classic coming-of-age story, one of the best of Black American cinema.
10 Things I Hate About You | Monday, February 14 at 7 p.m.
What's a better Valentine's Day movie than this well-loved adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew?” This date night movie has it all: a great cast (Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Allison Janney, Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an arguably greater soundtrack, and a downright romantic paintball scene.
Saving Face | Monday, February 21 at 7 p.m.
The 2004 lesbian dramedy stars Michelle Krusiec as Wilhelmina Pang, or Wil, whose mother, Ma (played by Joan Chen), tries in vain to set her up with eligible New York bachelors. Wil instead falls for Vivian, a ballerina pursuing her passion for contemporary dance. Ma, divorced and suddenly pregnant, moves in with Wil to avoid shame from their tight-knit Chinese-American community.
Baby Driver | Monday, February 28 at 7 p.m.
Edgar Wright directs as Ansel Elgort plays Baby, a get-away driver with tinnitus, indebted to Atlanta crime boss Doc. Amidst stunning car chases serving as the choreography in this "mixtape on wheels" (“Sight & Sound”), Baby meets angelic waitress Debora (Lily James), who symbolizes Baby's potential redemption.
