Historical Talk: Boys & Girls Club and YMCA

May 9, 6:00 PM

Free

It is quite a milestone year for Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterville, celebrating 100 years! Please join us to learn the history of the club in Waterville, led for the past 32 years by Alfond Youth & Community Center CEO, Ken Walsh. From its humble beginnings on Temple Street, the club has grown and evolved, always there for the youth of the community. The YMCA of Greater Waterville is also celebrating its 75th anniversary. In 1999, for the first time in US history, these two national organizations merged, which created the Alfond Youth & Community Center. Twenty-five years later, it is still the only one like it in the country, out of 8,000 organizations. Barely a student in the city didn’t connect with one of these organizations in some significant way during their youth.

For the warmer months and longer days, we return to Thursday evening history talks. Join us in welcoming guest speaker, Ken Walsh, on Thursday, May 9th. Door opens at 6:00 for light refreshments and socializing, Ken will present at 6:30. All are welcome; bring a friend! Admission is free; donations are gladly accepted. See you on Thursday, May 9th.
