Getting Smart About Electricity
January 21, 2016, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
FreeWe will explore how to determine how much energy your home is consuming and hear about Maine Green Power.
Energy Team leader John Reuthe and Tamra Pierce from Cerntral Maine Power will explain how to look at your homes and understand how much energy you are consuming. They will demonstrate some simple tools to help you make smart decisions. Here is an example. John heats his home with primarily propane, but he also uses wood and electricity for his heat pumps. The cost of propane is way down compared to last year. Should he turn off his heat pumps or reduce their use because electricity is expensive? Or is it still a better financial deal than propane? He will be working on the numbers. Oftentimes, the only thing some people think about is how much is this costing me. Knowing this information will be important if you are considering participating in the Solarize Mid Maine Program.
Hazel Onsrud from Maine Green Power will explain how generators, suppliers, and utilities interact in our conventional electricity system and the impacts made by local residents' energy choices. She will outline the numerous electricity options available to Maine residents and businesses, focus on Maine Green Power. Maine Green Power is a program overseen by the Maine Public Utilities Commission and a way for the average Maine household to support 100% Maine-made, renewable energy.
Meeting in Room 141 of The Diamond Building at Colby College.
