203rd Colby College Commencement

Celebrated presidential historian, international speaker, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin ’64, LL.D. ’78 will deliver the commencement address. Goodwin is the author of seven critically acclaimed and New York Times bestselling books that provide intimate portrayals of Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Baines Johnson, and John F. Kennedy. Her books have inspired films and miniseries, some of which she has executive produced through her independent production company, Pastimes Productions, Inc. Goodwin is sought by the media and late-night TV and news hosts to provide historical context on contemporary issues and has served as a consultant for documentaries produced by PBS, History, and others. Commencement is open to the public with general admission seating. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and usually lasts until noon. We suggest arriving around 9 a.m. if you would like a seat on Miller Lawn. Standing room will also be available.
In addition, for those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be accessible from the Commencement 2024 home page. The livestream will have closed captions and there will be American Sign Language (ASL) interpretration.
In the case of extreme weather, the ceremony will be moved inside and students will have the opportunity to invite three guests. Should the forecast indicate that waiting to begin the ceremony would allow for it to be outside, it is possible the College could move the time to later in the day.
