A Breath of Life
April 9, 2023, 2:30 PM
FreeQ&A with local trans activists and Colby students.
Lucy is a 96-year-old (a)typical Italian grandmother. Despite her age, she is still lucid and sassy. Lucy is the oldest transsexual woman in Italy and among the few who survived Dachau concentration camp. Her life offers the opportunity to reflect on a series of ongoing debates, including gender identity, transphobia, and the fight for civil rights. The film retraces Lucy’s life: her childhood, her experience as a soldier during WWII, and her life as a trans woman. Lucy’s story represents the history of the 1900s. Her stormy life events are a metaphor for a humanity that does not give up and treasures memory as the most important gift in history and as an invaluable starting point.
In Italian with English subtitles.
