The Recovery in Maine series is coming to Waterville this January to present a screening of Jamie Boyle's documentary Anonymous Sister. Established in 2018, Points North Institute's Recovery in Maine program is a statewide series of documentary film screenings that spark public discussions about substance use disorder, the recovery process, and our collective response to the opioid epidemic. Recovery in Maine screenings are free and open to the public, and this event at the Maine Film Center will include local recovery resources from the greater Waterville community.
When a young woman turns to the camera for refuge, she ends up with a firsthand account of what will become the deadliest man-made epidemic in United States history. Thirty years in the making, Anonymous Sister is two-time Emmy Award® winning director Jamie Boyle's chronicle of her family's collision with the opioid epidemic. The film will be preceded by an original short documentary from the Recovery in Maine series, Recovery in Maine: Washington County, which follows a Mainer supporting harm reduction in her rural community.
