Building Leadership Capacity and Managing Transition

April 7, 2016

As part of our Mission Driven Leadershift initiative, the Maine Association of NonProfits will host two events to help organizations explore the opportunities and challenges of the leadership transitions facing the sector. Register to attend either, or both!

Executive Transitions Panel Luncheon: Managing Risks + Seizing Opportunities,

11:30am-1:30pm

We all want to ensure the sustainability of our organizations’ missions far into the future. To do so, board and staff leaders must be ready to successfully navigate executive transitions. The recent Leadership New England study indicates that over 60% of executives plan to transition out of their organizations in the next five years. When done thoughtfully, these transitions can bring positive organizational change and growth. This luncheon will feature a facilitated panel discussion that will include the perspectives of Maine nonprofit executive directors and board leaders on their successes and challenges in preparing for, managing, and moving beyond an executive transition.
Join us to:

  • get a foundation in the phases of executive transition,
  • learn about best practices for managing this major event in an organization’s life cycle, and
  • hear real life examples and tips from peers.

Who Should Attend: Executive Directors, Board Leaders

Afternoon Executive Leadership Forum: Is Your Organization Ready for What’s Next? Building Leadership Capacity to Drive Mission

2:45pm-6:00pm

In 2015, MANP and Third Sector New England (TSNE) partnered to survey nonprofit executives and board members to discover the challenges and opportunities facing our leaders and organizations. The findings reinforce that building a leadership culture is critical to enhanced mission impact and sustainability. Within the next twenty years, at least 40% of Maine’s current workforce will be 65 or older. With thoughtful preparation, nonprofits can be better prepared to weather the departure of key leaders, while keeping mission in the forefront and building organizational capacity and effectiveness.

Join us to learn about and discuss concrete strategies to build leadership capacity and prepare your organization to thrive during periods of change and transition.
