Free

TulipsIn support of Mental Health Awareness week, join Waterville Creates! and the Yellow Tulip Project as we work together with FEDCO Bulbs and Johnny’s Selected Seeds to plant Hope Gardens at the RiverWalk at Head of Falls, Veterans Memorial Park, and the Bill + Joan Alfond Main Street Commons in downtown Waterville.

Planting will begin at the RiverWalk at 2pm and finish at 4pm at Veterans Memorial Park. Hot cocoa, cider, and an opening ceremony led by Yellow Tulip Project ambassador Abi Bloom will take place at Veterans Memorial Park at 4pm.

Participating organizations include: Waterville High School, Kennebec Behavioral Health, Waterville Parks + Recreation, Hardy Girls/Healthy Women, The Family Enrichment Council, Waterville Rotary Club, The Waterville Public Library, Maine General Hospital, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, FEDCO Bulbs, Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville Peer Recovery Center, and the Universalist Unitarian Church.

The Yellow Tulip Project is a Maine based non-profit organization whose mission is to diminish the stigma of mental illness while building a supportive community with youth and community leaders. The goal is to remove the stigma associated with mental illness and the Yellow Tulip Project is fiercely devoted to making this aspiration a reality.

There will be additional privately-owned planting locations throughout the city and lots of tulips to enjoy in spring! Associated community wellness events are slated for May when the tulips are in full bloom.
