Domestic Violence Impact on Children

February 12, 2023, 2:30 PM

Free

Join us for a Finding Our Voices program in which local survivors will share experiences growing up and as adults on how domestic violence impacts children. The program begins with short documentaries by Matt Siegel on Christine Buckley and Courtney Billings from Maine who grew up in abusive households and then found themselves trapped in the same thing with their intimate partners. The award-winning UK film Timekeeper focuses on coercive control, a.k.a. emotional abuse by a family member, and informs educators on how to recognize and help their young students who are experiencing this trauma. Courtney and Christine as well as survivors from Waterville will discuss how to break the cycle. There will also be a community conversation that includes District Attorney Maeghan Maloney and Police Chief William Bonney.

This event, sponsored by Finding Our Voices and the Oak Institute for Human Rights, is free and open to the public.
