This program will feature traditional shakuhachi pieces performed by a shakuhachi grand master Hanzaburo Araki, and contemporary works for modern flute inspired by the rich tradition of the shakuhachi. The performance will highlight the deep and ancient traditions of the Japanese shakuhachi, a bamboo end-blown flute, and how these traditions have influenced contemporary compositions for the modern flute.

Music in the Museum is a series of live performances, curated by the Colby College Music Department, which take place in the Colby Museum galleries, featuring local and regional musicians.
