Jeanne Dielman
January 8, 2023, 12:45 PM
$9Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai Du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles is “the Greatest Film of All Time.” In a stunning surprise, Chantal Akerman’s feminist masterpiece just won the Sight and Sound poll of over 1400 global film critics’ once-every-decade vote for that honor, knocking off past winners Vertigo (2012 winner) and Citizen Kane (winner of the previous 4 decades), which placed second and third. Akerman’s 1976 film follows Jeanne (Delphine Seyrig) about her life in the course of one day, a day, like all others, that includes minute attention to housework, raising her teenage son Sylvain, and turning an afternoon trick, her source of income.
In French with English subtitles.
Admission: $9 adults, students, and seniors. Eligible for the Youth Arts Access Fund.
(Not Rated, 202 min., 1975)
