Enjoy a fabulous lunch and meet President & CEO of Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter & Services, Dr. Katie Spencer White. Dr. White will share her vision for future plans at the Shelter along with her notable leadership path and lifelong experiences that prepared her for her current position.
Dr. Katie Spencer White was appointed by Governor Mills to serve on the Maine Statewide Homeless Council. Over the last five years, she has led Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter through the pandemic, and transitioned MMHSS into one of the most innovative and impactful homeless services agencies in the state.
Prior to her work in nonprofits, Dr. White qualified as a lawyer in the UK where her legal practice focused on the higher education and charities sectors. A 3rd generation Californian, Dr. White holds a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Postgraduate Diplomas in English Law and Legal Practice from the University of Law and Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom.
She is a proud "Double Huskey" having earned her master's degree as well as her doctorate in law and public policy from Northeastern. Dr. White's doctoral dissertation on the experience of justice for unrepresented tenants in eviction proceedings was awarded the Dean's Medal for Outstanding Doctoral Scholarship.
When not working, Dr. White is an avid reader who can usually be found - Kindle in hand - watching her kids play soccer or, weather permitting, enjoying the coast and trails of Maine. Come hear Dr. White’s story of her challenges and her devotion, which resulted in a quality organization addressing the homeless situation in our area.
