In Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria today, there is large-scale destruction of cultural heritage, especially remnants of ancient visual cultures in the region. This lecture by Assistant Professor of Art Marta E. Ameri examines the history of such image destruction in the Middle East, focusing on its role in the context of political and social upheaval and religious debates.
