Media Malpractice?: The Press in the Age of Trump
April 25, 2017, 7:00 PM
FreeThe role of the media in the 2016 election was exceptional and will be studied for decades. Did the press underestimate Donald Trump’s support, or did it help fuel his ascent?
The role of the press during the early stages of the Trump Administration has also become a hot topic. How will the press respond to “alternative facts” and weather recurrent, harsh attacks by the president for publishing what he calls “fake news”? Will the Fourth Estate remain steadfast in its duty to report factual, unbiased accounts — and how will the public respond?
These questions and many others will be put to our distinguished panel of journalists in a lively, 75-minute exchange. Panelists include Steve Collinson, senior enterprise reporter, CNN; Ali Watkins, national security correspondent, BuzzFeed News; and Colin Woodard, state and national affairs writer, Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram.
Sponsored by the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement.
