An event every day that begins at 10:00 AM, repeating until February 23, 2020
First-time feature filmmaker Likarion Wainaina and co-producer Tom Tykwer (Run, Lola Run) tell an uplifting story about the strength of young people despite facing one of life’s most difficult and profound challenges. Jo, a terminally ill nine-year-old girl, is taken back to her rural village to live out the rest of her short life. Obsessed with Jackie Chan and action films, Jo dreams of being a superhero despite time not being on her side. While her protective mother Kathryn insists that she stay inside and rest, Jo’s rebellious teenaged sister Mwix has different plans. Orchestrating the entire village’s support, she decides to make Jo’s dream a reality and turn her into the superhero they know she is. Child actress Stycie Waweru delivers a captivating and earnest performance imbuing her character with a subtle strength. Supa Modo was Kenya’s submission for the 2019 Best Foreign-Language Oscar.
