Two Gentlemen of Verona

“Comedy, love and a bit with a dog, that’s what they want” says a line from Shakespeare in Love. Join Recycled Shakespeare Company on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, when the company will perform “Two Gentlemen of Verona” by William Shakespeare.
Valentine and Proteus are best friends who depart from their homeland of Verona to visit Padua, where they both meet and fall in love with the fair Silvia. To make matters worse, Proteus is already betrothed to Julia, who is waiting for him in Verona. Watch as friendships are tested and identities are questioned in this Shakespearean comedy. And yes, there’s a bit with a dog!
Jakob Sutton, of Freedom, serves as first time director for this 17 member cast as well as taking the leading role of Valentine. Jakob has taken leading roles with RSC since its beginning and is active on stage at Lakewood and Mount View High School. Joshua Fournier and Emily Rowden Fournier, of Fairfield; and Tasha Jencks-Ayers, of Madison; star with him as the two sets of lovers. RSC is happy to welcome new members to the cast: Katie Howes, of Windsor, is playing duo roles of Thurio and Launce; Raymond Wing, of Waterville, plays the Duke of Milan; and Jeremiah King, of Liberty, acts as the comedic servant, Speed. Returning RSC members Liana LaPlante, Teya Bard, and Joe Rowden of Fairfield, Debbie Achorn and Todd Bayley, of Waterville, and Jason Sutton, of Freedom, round out the cast. Aaron Blaschke Rowden will be doing tech work and providing the dog, Barclay the Beagle, who plays Crab.
A special feature is RSC friend, Maureen Cullen, a Shakespeare lover from Seabrook, Texas, who is traveling to Maine to take a small role. She will also play some simple late Renaissance tunes on the piano in a pre-show which will include Shakespearean songs performed by Emily Rowden Fournier, Lyn Rowden, of Fairfield, with Carol George and Tamie Trainer, both of Waterville.
Recycled Shakespeare Company is a not-for-profit community theater that specializes in Shakespearean theater while upholding the values of sustainable living by recycling and repurposing materials for performances. Everyone is welcome and invited to participate in this true community theater group where everybody can take part.
