The first annual VARIETY! is a new, signature fundraising event for Waterville Creates! and sure to be the hottest ticket in town. Join us in supporting the arts in Waterville as we present VARIETY! on Saturday, October 19 at the historic Waterville Opera House. Amazing and original performances have been curated especially for this community event — including our headlining act, Star the Dancing Horse with Intuitive Horseman, Kevin Crane. Proceeds will directly support the programming of Waterville Creates!, the Maine Film Center, the Waterville Opera House, and Common Street Arts.

The cast of the Waterville Opera House's upcoming production of Disney's Newsies the Musical will be performing the high-energy musical number "King of New York!" Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Disney's Newsies the Musical is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies."

Mike Miclon, Stand-Up Juggler
Mike Miclon, Stand-Up Juggler, has built an international reputation as a physical comedian, juggler, and improv artist. This reputation has brought him to some of the finest theaters and special events across the United States and Europe, with such highlights as the Kennedy Center and the White House in Washington D.C., The Keller Theater in Germany, The Victoria Jungfrau Hotel in Switzerland and the Festa Americana in Italy.

Ocean Child
Isabelle and Phoebe Rogers are twin sisters from Temple, Maine. Ocean Child is their first animated short film, which won the Huey Award at the Maine Student Film and Video Festival this year during the Maine International Film Festival. The song in the film (lyrics by Isabelle and melody by Phoebe) is inspired by the mythical legend of the Selkie, a mythical creature embodying a human that can transform into a seal.

Kali Lozada, Haley Libby, Hannah Butler, Hunter Hamlin, Maya Gray, and Rowan Saucier will perform a spectacular tap routine the Happy Hoofers, choreographed by Terri Glidden. Their fast feet and intricate rhythms are impressive.

Poetry Out Loud State Champion
Joao Victor
Originally from Angola, Joao Victor was the 2019 Maine Poetry Out Loud State Champion and was named Lewiston’s first Youth Poet Laureate. Joao will perform the recitation that won him the championship and share his own work.

Kevin Crane, Intuitive Horseman with Star the Dancing Horse
Kevin Crane, Intuitive Horseman will be on stage with Star the Dancing Horse – performing a routine choreographed to music. A horse has not been on the historic Waterville Opera House in over 80 years! Kevin is based at Crane Horse Farm in Albion, Maine and works with a wide assortment of disciplines including dressage, open hunter jumpers, English and Western pleasure, gaited, team penning, barrel racing and driving horses.

MIFF Trailer Compendium

Jak Peters will share selections from the unique collection of trailers he has created for the Maine International Film Festival. Jak has been creating these original pieces to share with the MIFF community for 9 years, and they have become central to the MIFF experience. They are played at every MIFF screening. At VARIETY!, he will introduce a mashup of this fascinating work.
