Writing Waterville Workshop: History Poetry

December 12, 2023, 6:00 PM7:00 PM

Tyler FrenchWith Tyler French.

Join Central Maine writers for a series of writing workshops spanning genres and forms. Each workshop session will be led by a different writer and all workshop participants will be invited to submit their work for publication in a chapbook. The series will culminate in a public reading and chapbook launch party.

What happens when we condense, intermingle, and weave together personal narrative and history, lore, or myth in poetry? What can a sense of history bring to our experience of the present and how can our own stories trouble that sense of history? Guided by these questions, we will move through a generative workshop to poetically engage with the histories of Waterville and how they shape and are shaped by our present. Participants are encouraged to bring any historical texts they may want to source.

These workshops are open to writers of all levels of experience. Although admission is free, registration is required.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and realized in partnership with the Colby College Museum of Art and its Lunder Institute for American Art.
