Children’s Discovery Museum Newsletter

MAY
Hello friends,

With spring in full swing we're already thinking about summer! This summer we're excited to partner with our friends at Viles Arboretum and Quarry Road for two summer camps that get kids playing outside and exploring the great outdoors! Stay tuned for more information, coming soon.

We just created a new blog to pull away the curtain on all the work we've been doing Behind the Scenes to get the museum ready for you.

And lastly, check out our new page with ways you can Get Involved with the museum.

Momentum is building and we're thrilled to tell you about it!

Yours in discovery,

Amarinda Keys
Children's Discovery Museum Executive Director

MUSEUM BUILD-OUT UPDATES
Check out our new blog Behind the Scenes, where we'll be sharing each phase of our build-out progress along with profiles of the creators, builders and makers helping us out.Posts will be geared toward children and adults alike. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to learn about a variety of different careers and to engage curious minds.

And on our Facebook page look for opportunities to ask questions and get them answered in future blog posts. Do you have a question for our architect or exhibits designer? Find the post and ask away in the comments.

EXHIBIT SPOTLIGHT
You can see an overview of all our exhibits here, including a Rural Zone, The Mill Zone, City Zone, and The Watershed.
PROGRAMS & EVENTS

Viles Meet Ups

Join us in any weather every Thursday! We never know what we'll find. This month we've spotted frogs, snakes, worms, sun-bathing turtles and soaring hawks.

Come for a short activity and an exploration walk.

In an effort to do our part in keeping our community safe, we ask that masks be worn while we are interacting with one another.

The Discovery Room

Book a private hour of play at the Discovery Room at Viles Arboretum!

Outfitted to create opportunities for exploration, there's a nature sensory table, train table, loose-parts ball ramps, imaginative farmers market, microscopes and more.

The space is geared towards children ages 1 through 6 and is open for scheduled, private play sessions Wednesday - Saturday from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Be sure to book in advance, as time slots are filling quickly!

AT-HOME ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH
Mmm, sensory play with an aromatic pick-me-up!
Mix up a batch of this delicious smelling play dough using left over coffee grounds! The texture of this dough has a little grit which makes it look a little like dirt. Grab some bug figurines or pretend to "plant" seeds and flowers.Find more fun and easy at-home activities on our Facebook page.
If there is anything we can do to help you connect your child with any needed resources, such as basic needs or emotional/educational support, please let us know by emailing Amarinda Keys at amarinda@childrensdiscoverymuseum.org.

Stay safe, and don't forget to PLAY!
