Hopeful Sign

Hopeful artworks have been popping up across the state of Maine, and Augusta is the newest recipient of a 25-foot Hopeful Sign—designed by artist, Charlie Hewitt. Thanks to the support of our sponsors—The Boulos Company, Central Maine Power and Kennebec Savings Bank—people who live, work and play in Augusta can enjoy this sign for many years to come.

Members of the press are invited to attend the installation on Sep. 19 (more information to come) as well as the historic Campaign Kickoff Sign Lighting event on Tuesday, Sep. 20 at 330 Water St. in Augusta. During this event, United Way of Kennebec Valley's campaign Pacesetters will announce early fundraising totals, food and merchandise will be available for purchase and at sunset Augusta's Hopeful sign will be lit—sending a daily message of hope to the people of Central Maine.

More than 300 people from local businesses, nonprofit agencies, and other community partners across Kennebec County are expected to attend.

Hopeful is not a gift—it's a challenge. To be hopeful requires action, it requires commitment, it requires opening your eyes, it requires making a decision, it requires being part of something. It requires being passionately in love with your country, passionately in love with your family, and passionately in love with your community."
