United Way shares resources in face of SNAP benefits lapse

Dear Community Members,

Thousands of residents across Kennebec County are facing reduced or delayed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The lapse of these benefits on November 1 has left an estimated 14,000 local residents without critical food assistance. While partial payments are expected later this month, many families and individuals are already experiencing real hardship.

As an organization committed to shared well-being and stability, we want to ensure that if you or someone you know is affected by these changes, you have immediate access to food resources and support.

Food Assistance Resources

New Resource Page: We have published a Food Assistance Resources—Kennebec County page, which lists local food pantries, soup kitchens, and meal programs. We will continue to update the page as new information comes inplease check back regularly.

United Ways of Maine’s 211 Maine: This resource serves as a key starting point for finding local social services and general assistance. You can reach out to 211 anytime (24/7) to speak with a specialist who may be able to connect you with available food pantries, meal sites, and other support programs in your area:

  • Call: 2-1-1 (or 866-811-5695)

How You Can Help

In moments like this, the strength of our community shines through. You can make a difference by:

  • Sharing this information with anyone who may need it.
  • Volunteering with a local food pantry or meal site through VolunteerME Kennebec Valley
  • Advocating for neighbors by spreading awareness of available resources and checking in on those who may be struggling.

At UWKV, we are committed to keeping our community informed, connected, and supported—because no one should face hunger alone. Together, we will continue to rally around the people and families who make our region strong.
