REM Award Honorees (2019) — Fay Perham (Northern Light Continuing Care Lakewood)
Fay Perham began volunteering in 2013, when her husband came to live at Lakewood. With an extensive background in nursing and taking care of others, Fay was naturally drawn to volunteering at Lakewood.
Fay is always willing to do whatever is needed and even comes in occasionally on holidays and often on weekends to help with group activities. As part of her role, she helps the residents to and from their rooms and the activity room, assists with the monthly birthday party, musical entertainment, van rides, craft groups, bean bag toss, Chicken Dance, and much more!
Fay enjoys keeping busy, making puzzles, spending time with her dog, Bitsy, living at camp during the summer, swimming, gardening, golfing, reading, music, and much more. She also enjoys square dancing and clogging — activities she used to share with her late husband.
Providing quality service to her community has always been important to Fay, who has volunteered in the past at coffee and gift shops in different facilities and helped prepare food for community lunches in Norway every Wednesday for many years.
Fay says, “I really enjoy working with the staff and patients. They are like my family. I hope to make someone’s life a little happier by being here. I just wish I could do more… volunteering makes me happy and fulfilled — I feel like my life is worth something after all.”
The residents and staff deeply appreciate Fay’s dedication, commitment, and investment to enhance the residents’ quality of life at Lakewood.
